Ryan Belnap

Ryan has been with the Bilby Research Center since 2005. He received both a BFA (Utah State University) and an MFA (Washington State University) in photography. Ryan dabbles in the Darkroom Arts and specializes in conjuring up cameras from most any object he finds. His cameras number over 100 and include an old fountain pen, a tin can, a top hat, and a VW van. When he is not hiding out in the darkroom or workshop, he can be found enjoying anything outdoors.

Dan has been with the Bilby Research Center since 1990 and is currently the director of the Research Imaging Lab. He has a BS in Anthropology and an MA in Art. Prior to joining the Bilby staff, he was publisher/editor of UN-TV Arts & Entertainment Magazine. Dan has artworks in permanent collections in Helsinki, Finland; St. Petersburg, Russia; Northern Arizona University; and other institutions. His interests also include recreational inventing, land sailing, and robotics.

Marcelle was trained in archaeology and paleoethnobotany at the University of Missouri at Columbia (MA 1988). She became Manager of the Bilby Research Center in 1990, and now divides her time between Bilby Center administration and working with researchers on campus on specific projects. She is currently enrolled in the Graduate Certificate in Conservation Ecology program at NAU. In her free time she enjoys going on outings with her family, hiking, skiing, and reading.

Kimberly has been working at the Bilby Center since February of 2001. She handles the accounting and day-to-day operations at Bilby. She has a daughter, Heather, who is currently attending NAU, and a son, Christopher, who is attending Coconino High School. Kimberly enjoys time with her children, and she is also an avid outdoorswoman who enjoys fishing and hunting every chance she can.

We have recently hired Victor Leshyk, an extremely talented scientific illustrator, to provide these services. Victor brings an entirely new skill set to NAU, including intricate hand (or computer) renderings for the natural sciences and extensive experience in creating and installing museum exhibits (check out the new exhibit at MNA on the Therizinosaurs which opens this fall!). Victor brings a strong fine arts background to this position (BFA, University of Wisconsin) as well as a well-rounded understanding of the life sciences (BS in Bio-Cell and Molecular Biology, University of Wisconsin).

Patrick graduated from Humboldt State Univerisity in 2000. He first joined the Bilby Center in 2002 as photographer in the imaging lab. Patrick is currently the web designer for the Bilby Research Center. He also has extensive experience with print design, and layout. Patrick can often be found exploring the Colorado Plateau region with his 4x5 large-format camera. He is an avid landscape photographer and his work can be seen on display locally. Patrick enjoys playing guitar, bicycling, laughing, tinkering with anything that has lots of parts, good food, and looking out across the horizon while sitting next to a warm, juniper-wood fire.

Eve joined the staff at the Bilby Research Center in 2008. Providing editorial services to faculty and researchers at NAU, her recent projects include a Web site, a research paper, a grant proposal, and a screen treatment. Currently, two full-length book manuscripts are on her editing schedule. Just before her employment with NAU, she worked at a newspaper. During the last 14 years, Eve was a nonfiction book author; software content writer, editor, and publisher; e-books editor and publisher; and Web designer and content editor. Her interests are outdoor photography, digital art, reading and writing fiction, collecting antique art books, and train travel.

Susie became interested in botany and geology while working seasonally for the National Park Service. She accumulated a variety of Park Service experiences in several western national parks, including Death Valley and Yosemite in California, Denali and the Northwest Territories in Alaska, and the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Susie completed a bachelors degree in Geology from Humboldt State University, Arcata, California, in 1977 and, in 1989, finished her master's in Quaternary Studies at Northern Arizona University. She started her current position as manager of the Laboratory of Paleoecology in 1990 and has specialized in archaeological palynology. Botany and geology have continued to be her special interests and fuel her passion to explore the Southwest. Susie enjoys backpacking, hiking, running, birding, and cooking.
